Tiny Pieces, Big Ideas

In this room, pixel is our friendly name for a tiny piece that helps build something bigger. A dot on a screen is one kind. A bit— 0 or 1—is another. When many pieces are arranged and given rules, they can become pictures, messages, and games.

A mark alone is simple. Its size, color, position, and relationship to other marks help our eyes recognize a picture or a 3D form.

Tiny pieces become meaningful when they are arranged, connected, and read together.

The Nativity scene in the center is a 3D scan: a computer measured many, many points on the real object and saved them all. It is proof you can walk around — lots of tiny measurements can describe one whole shape.
