Before Supreme: Shape, Cut, Reassemble

These two exercises are the material preparation for Supreme: Love in 80 Parts. Eunice first built a visual language from four shapes, then printed, cut and reassembled it by hand.

EX01 — Black-and-White Compositions

Line, circle, triangle and square stop being just four shapes — they become a small set of rules that work together. In twenty-four square pictures, Eunice uses only these shapes to try one idea at a time: big against small, mirror-alike or lopsided, repeating, moving, balancing, rough or smooth, heavy or light. Each sheet asks one question, in black and white only.

They hang together as one big set — six rows of four — because the interesting part is not any single picture, but how each one changes from the one before it. Read them like a page: across, then down.

EX02 — Analog Compositions

Next, Eunice printed the EX01 pictures, cut them apart, and glued the pieces into new pictures by hand. The shapes are still the same four — but now you can see the hand at work: edges that are not perfect, layers that overlap, happy accidents that turned out better than the plan, and the start of a story that neat shapes alone did not tell.

These two works now share the same process wall as the studies they came from. Together they show the move from controlled geometry to texture, overlap, accident and the visible touch of a hand.
